Overview

E2E in partnership with Place Design Group was commissioned to develop the Interactive Transport Planning Tool (ITPT) for Translink.

ITPT is a simulation environment design to assist transport planners in determining effective load and carrying capacity of various public transport modes based on population density and land-use.

ITPT allows users to simulate environments that reflect varying population densities; urban forms and street networks. The tool is devised solely for the purpose of visual exploration of built environments resulting from conjectured transport planning scenarios.

Users can tailor environments to reflect their particular needs. The tool imports most major GIS formats in real-time. Users are able to test the viability of different public transport forms. The potential viability of a chosen mode of public transport can be tested. Alternatively, population density required to sustain a planned public transport service can be determined
.
ITPT delivers detailed statistics on the entire simulation environment or on individual selected blocks. Statistics include but are not limited to:
• Total area of the catchment
• Site cover
• Dwellings per hectare
• Total Floor Area
• Number of Units
• Population
• Land Use Breakdown
• Number of car parks
• Frequency of public transport service
• Average distance to transport node.
